September 11, 2009: Resource Recycling Article on Disaster Debris Recycling
Below is an excerpt from an e-mail received from Resource Recylcing:
Earthquakes, windstorms, fires and floods are events that no one individual wants to endure and, all too often, they're instances that occur without warning. Though a natural disaster can last mere seconds, in some cases, the financial, emotional and environmental impacts from such events can be felt for an extended period of time.
Materials recovery is generally the last thought on anyone's mind after a natural disaster has occurred. However, having a disaster debris management plan in place can help a community identify options for collecting, recycling and properly disposing of generated debris.
